Ulaanbaatar, December 4, 2023 /MONTSAME/. The Tokyo Grand Slam 2023, the final tournament of the International Judo Association in 2023, took place on December 2-3, 2023, bringing together over 500 judokas representing 84 countries.

Mongolia fielded a team of 20 judokas at the Grand Slam, achieving success with silver and bronze medals.

In the men's -66 kg category, world number two Baskhuu Yondonperenlei from Mongolia claimed the silver medal. His journey to the final included victories over Cheng Yen-Ming (TPE) in round 2, Kokolayev Matan (ISR) in round 3, Lima William (BRA) in the quarter-final, and Bouba Daikii (FRA) in the semi-final. However, in the gold medal match, Baskhuu faced the formidable Hifumi Abe (JPN). Despite a strong performance, Baskhuu succumbed to Hifumi Abe's trademark misdirecting o-soto-gari, resulting in a highlight-reel ippon and securing Hifumi Abe's 11th Grand Slam gold medal.

In the women's -52 kg category, Mongolian judoka Sosorbaram Lkhagvasuren earned a bronze medal by prevailing over Pupp Reka (HUN).
