Chair of Mongolia-Canada Parliamentary Group meets ministers of the government of Saskatchewan

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On September 10, 2021 H.E. Mr. G. Damdinnyam, Member of the Parliament, Chair of the Mongolia-Canada Parliamentary Group and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Education, Culture, Science, and Sports met with the Honorable Gene Makowsky, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Minister of Advanced Education of the Government of Saskatchewan.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on possible opportunities to conclude a framework agreement on cooperation in the field of education to support cooperation between universities, increase number of Mongolian students studying in Saskatchewan, conduct joint research, provide English language trainings for Mongolian teachers and students, implement student exchange programs and 2+2 programs. The two sides also discussed a wide range of issues, including exploring possible ways of establishing cooperation between the Province of Darkhan-Uul of Mongolia and the Province of Saskatchewan, as well as cooperation between the Darkhan-Uul branch of the University of Agriculture and the University of Saskatchewan, training of public servants and training local youth in agriculture, farming and livestock skills.
During the meeting with the Honorable David Marit, Member of the Legislative Assembly and the Minister of Agriculture of Saskatchewan, the two sides discussed potentials of expanding cooperation in the field of agriculture and animal husbandry, introducing the province’s intensive animal husbandry, veterinary medicine and cultivation advanced technology and equipment into Mongolia, taking into consideration geographical and climate similarities of Mongolia and the province of Saskatchewan. Both sides also agreed to ensure participation of Mongolian farmers in the Canadian Western Agribition and Canada’s Farm Show, establish direct contact with the University of Saskatchewan’s Livestock and Forage Center of Excellence and exchange representatives from the agricultural sector.
Saskatchewan is a province in the Canadian prairies with temperatures reaching -40°C in winter and +40°C in summer. Similar to Mongolia, Saskatchewan’s warm season lasts from April to September. The province leads the country and the world in agriculture and mining sectors. In 2020, the province exported 16,9 billion USD worth of agricultural products (grain and meat). Promotion of research and innovations is one of the many driving forces for the province’s leading success.
