Public transport hours extended amid COVID-19 lockdown

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The Emergency Commission of Ulaanbaatar city today reported that timetables of public transport in Ulaanbaatar city will return to normal, from 6 AM to 10 PM, with a view to reduce crowds on public transport. 


Until today, service hours of public transport in Ulaanbaatar were from 7 AM until 10 AM as well as between 5 PM and 8 PM, and all nonessential transport and movement of people was prohibited outside of the permitted time, amid the current nationwide lockdown in place from November 11 until December 1 to prevent from coronavirus spread.


Only essential businesses and services are allowed to remain open, such as food stores and supermarkets, food manufacturers, food distribution, gas stations, fuel suppliers, public toilets, disinfection and sterilization places, livestock fodder suppliers, hospitals, courts and prosecution offices, banks, pharmacies, power stations, communications and media, special services, state-owned organizations of particular and strategic importance, and funeral services.


Their essential workers must carry a work identification and permit from their employer proving their status during their commute at the permitted time from 6 AM until 10 PM.  


Residents are urged to stay at home and only to leave if it is necessary, such as to buy groceries and medicines at stores near home. Residents can also use their private vehicles from 6 AM until 10 PM, but only for essential purposes and medical emergencies.


As explained by press representative of the State Emergency Commission Ts.Ganzorig, this change in public transport's working hours does not necessarily mean easing of the lockdown.
