Parliament Speaker meets U.S. Ambassador

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. On August 10, Speaker of the Parliament G.Zandanshatar received the U.S. Ambassador to Mongolia Mr. Michael S.Klecheski.
Speaker G.Zandanshatar noted that the Mongolia-U.S relations and cooperation are actively developing within the framework of the Strategic Partnership regardless of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are pleased that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has resumed its operations in Mongolia, and a USAID Representative has been appointed at the U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar. The Mongolian Government and people are very grateful to the organization for its continued support to our country since its transitional period.”
Last month, the Speaker got familiar with ongoing railway construction works in Gobi region aimags. At the meeting, he briefed about this construction work and exchanged views on the project’s efficiency.
Ambassador M. Klecheski said that as a third neighbor, efforts would be made to support this significant construction project, while expressing readiness to cooperate in major projects, such as the construction of a copper smelter and a greenhouse.
Besides, the Ambassador informed that the U.S. Government has officially announced the launch of the Strengthening Women and Youth Engagement in the Electoral and Political Processes in Mongolia project that will elevate the role of women and youth in civil society and the political process.
In turn, the Speaker emphasized that the participation of women in politics is increasing year by year. Moreover, Mr. Zandanshatar said that an irregular session of the Parliament would open on August 17, at which the State Budget amendments and a revised bill on Law on Administrative and territorial units of Mongolia and their governance are planned to be discussed.
The sides shared views on the local government system. The Ambassador was asked to support projects to be implemented in this area.
