Environment Minister meets UN Resident Coordinator

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Minister of Environment and Tourism D.Sarangerel met with Resident Coordinator of the United Nations (UN) in Mongolia Tapan Mishra to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation as well as key areas of further cooperation.


Minister D.Sarangerel said the 2020-2024 action plan of the Government of Mongolia will include policies and actions on climate change, forest management, tourism, green development, air pollution, and disaster risk reduction and prevention in line with the National Green Development Policy and the Sustainable Development Goals, while noting that glaciers have been melting due to climate change and global warming.


The Minister also expressed her views on bilateral cooperation in forest management and mitigation of air and other environmental pollution and undertook to focus on domestic tourism development to cope with the losses caused by COVID-19 in the tourism industry.


Recognizing Mongolia’s fast response to the global pandemic, UN Resident Coordinator Tapan Mishra expressed his hope that the newly-appointed Minister of Environment and Tourism will successfully lead the sector and undertook to cooperate on climate change, foreign and water management, tourism, green development policy, air pollution, and disaster risk reduction and prevention.
