Foreign Minister holds phone conversation with ESCAP Executive Secretary

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/.  Today, D.Tsogtbaatar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a phone conversation with Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).


During the phone conservation, Minister D. Tsogtbaatar gave detailed information on the COVID-19 situation in Mongolia, its impact on the country’s economy, and the Government response.  


In view of the rapidly evolving situation with the COVID-19 outbreak, the 76th session of ESCAP will be held via videoconferencing next week. Ms. Armida Alisjahbana appreciated that Mr.Tsogtbaatar would open the 76th session of the ESCAP as a chairman of the 75th session, and stressed the importance of regional collaboration in overcoming the pandemic.


Mr. Tsogtbaatar noted that the global pandemic is creating a new situation in international relations and raised an initiative on establishing a special unit in the ESCAP so that countries can work more actively, increase the role of the World Health Organization and cooperate in case of emergency.
