National bandy team leads pool standing in world championship

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The preliminary round matches of the 2020 Bandy World Championships have wrapped up in Irkutsk, Russia.

 

Teams are divided into two divisions, Divisions A and B. With the teams of Sweden, Russia, Finland, Kazakhstan, Norway, the U.S., Germany, and Estonia, the matches for Division A will be held between March 28 and April 5.

 

The national men’s bandy team was put into Pool B with the teams of Japan, Latvia, Slovakia, and Somalia. With consecutive wins against the teams of Somalia, Slovakia, and Japan with the scores of 10-0, 4-0, and 2-1, it was a fierce match for the Mongolian team against the Latvian team in the last match for the preliminary round. 


 


Crucial “swift” goals were made by the Mongolian team in the match. After the first goal was made by B.Jargalsaikhan at 5 minutes, our national team continued to be on the offense, with the Latvian goalkeeper successfully defending three times over the course of a few minutes. However, on the fourth try, G.Tamir made a goal, bringing the scores to 2-0. 

 

Today, the Mongolian team will be playing against the team of Czech, which placed 4th in Pool A.
