Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ “Ulaanbaatar World Grand Prix”, the 3x3 Basketball Tournament of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), was successfully organized in the Sukhbaatar Square on June 2-3.

Prize fund for the 3x3 Basketball Tournament, which is included in the Tokyo-2020 Summer Olympics program and allows to compete in the Olympics, was USD 20 thousand. The General sponsor of the tournament MCS Coca-Cola LLC of MCS Group jointly organized the event.

Fans from many countries watched the Ulaanbaatar World Grand Prix as they considered it as Pre-World Cup. Top teams from Poland, Russia, Serbia /2017 World Champion/ and Slovenia, that will participate in the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2018 in Manila on June 8-12, took part in the tournament. Slovenian Piran team that ranks fourth in the world won the first place, followed by Australian Melbourne team and the Serbian Novi Sad team that consists of world’s best athletes.

Mongolian Ulaanbaatar Hangarid team was in "D" section, won the first game with Tenuun Ulzii’s team by 22:14, but it was defeated by Canadian Saskatoon team by 17:8. In the semi finals, they defeated Russian Moscow team at 13:11 then lost to Australian Melbourne team by 21:13 and placed fourth.

The Khovd team has shown a great competition with the Novi Sad, No.1 team in 3x3, and almost defeated them before losing. It's a great success for a rising young team to equally compete with a team that consists of world's best players. The top two teams from the "Ulaanbaatar World Grand Prix" are qualified to participate in the "Kuala Lumpur Grand Prix”.

However, the Ulaanbaatar Khangard team and Khovd team proved their improvement in the tournament compared to their participation in “UB Challenger Grand Prix 2017” and Mongolians are confident that they will achieve more.
