The six Gobi animals namely wild Bactrian camel, Gobi bear, Takhi (Przewalski's horse), Khulan (wild ass), Goitered Gazelle and Saiga Antelope play crucial roles in Gobi region ecosystem. In recent years, Gobi-Altai aimag has been implementing bigger projects and events in direction of preserving nature and protecting animals, for instance, project on protecting Mazaalai (Gobi bear) and relocating Saiga Antelope and Przewalski’s wild horses.  In relation, good results have been observed.

Gobi-Altai aimag is the only aimag in which all the Gobi Great Six animals inhabit such as 20 per cent of Przewalski’s wild horses, 90 percent of Mazaalai, 80 per cent of Bactrian Camel, over 80 per cent of Saiga Antelope.
