Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ “Dorniin Ikh Gegee” and “Tomo Building” LLCs’ young workers have built pools for preserving gazelles from draught.
Due to lack of rain in Dornod Aimag, a large number of gazelle has died of thirst. Therefore, workers of “Dorniin Ikh Gegee” company and “Tomo Building” company have built four pools in the steppe by sheer willingness. The pools are located 30-40 kilometers away from 19th and 21st oil field and are 3-6 meters wide, 15-23 meters long and 50cm in depth. The pools were dug by an excavator have a capacity of preserving 30 tons of water each, totaling 120 tons altogether.

Although gazelles totaled 5 million back in 1970, the number reduced down to 3 million in 2010. Aside from natural disasters, such as draughts, dzud (severe winter) and diseases, illegal hunts are drastically decreasing the population. As a result, the herds that consisted of 20-30 thousand gazelles 20 years ago are now migrating with groups of only 30-40. Therefore, these diligent young people have decided to expand their deeds and create “Gazelle preserving fund”.
