Nation celebrates 854th birth anniversary of Chinggis Khaan, 377th anniversary of Capital City
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The birthday of the Great Chinggis Khaan, the first day of the first winter month, befalls on October 31. Two days before, the capital city Ulaanbaatar turned 377.
Chinggis Khaan was born in the Year of the Black Horse, the year of 1162. The birthday of Chinggis Khaan, the emperor of the biggest empire in the history of the world, was began to be celebrated on the first day of every first month of winter according to the Mongolian-Tibetan calendar, since 2012 as the Day of Mongolian Pride.
As a descendant of the Great Khaan, every Mongolian is proud to be the carrier of the bloodline and cultural and historic heritages. The name "Day of Mongolian Pride" was inspired by such a fact.
The capital city was incepted by the first Bogd Khaan of Mongolia - High Saint G.Zanabazar in 1639 in Uvurkhangai province. The city was named Urgoo. The capital city of Mongolia is the first nomadic capital city in the world, changing its location for 29 times.
Ulaanbaatar (literal translation - Red Hero), previously Urgoo, Nomyn Khuree, Ikh Khuree and Niislel Khuree, is now located in the Valley of Altan Tevsh, elevated 1,300 meters above sea level, in the midst of four mountains - Bogd Khaan, Songinokhairkhan, Chingeltei and Bayanzurkh. River Tuul flows across the south range of the city, while River Selbe cuts through the city from north to south.
The city has 1.6 million population, nine districts, including two satellite cities.
