Mongolia sees off Olympic team to Rio

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Ceremony for seeing of the athletes, who are to partake in the summer Olympic Games of 2016 to be held in Rio de Janeiro of Brazil, took place on July 20 at Chinggis Square. Present were President Ts.Elbegdorj, PM J.Erdenebat, Deputy PM Ts.Oyunbaatar, Minister of Health and Sports S.Lambaa, grand champion of Mongolian national wrestling B.Bat-Erdene MP, President of the Mongolian Olympic Committee D.Zagdsuren, honorary member of the International Olympic Committee Sh.Magvan, vice President of the Mongolian Olympic Committee and the head of Mongolian Olympic team J.Khatanbaatar, Mayor of Ulaanbaatar S.Batbold and the generations of Olympic medalists.

J.Erdenebat PM said in the opening remarks that Mongolia is sending 42 athletes to the 31st Summer Olympic Games “RIO 2016”, and eight athletes to the 15th Paralympic Games.

Mongolian athletes first started to participate in the Olympics in 1964, and since then grabbed 2 gold, 9 silver and 13 bronze medals in freestyle wrestling, judo, boxing and shooting.

Premier took the opportunity to thank the Government of Mongolia, preparing committee for the Rio 2016 and the people of Mongolia, who love sports and supports the sportspeople, for making tangible and intangible contributions to the successful attendance of the country’s team to the 2016 Olympics.

At the end, he wished the athletes to sound the Mongolia’s state anthem and raise the state flags many more times in the “Olympic Sky”.

The Olympic games will start on August 5, and the Paralympic, on September 7.
