President meets European Parliament delegation

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ President Ts.Elbegdorj met Wednesday a delegation led by Laima Liucija Andrikiene, a member of the European Parliament.

Expressing gratitude to the President for the audience, Laima said she is very excited to meet with Mongolian President on voting day of the parliamentary elections. She pointed out her team of the European Parliament (EP) which comprises six people got familiar with election process in Baganuur, Darkhan and Ulaanbaatar.

“The election course is running normally and lawfully, and no complain has been sounded so far,” Laima said.

The President noted he just cast his vote for the elections, and said Mongolia is working on upgrading its election system in considering lessons and achievements it gained in the past. He underlined the electric device used for counting ballots helps achieve progress in running the elections in just way.

“The ties with the European Union occupy a special position in the Mongolian foreign policy, and the EU is one of the vital Third Neighbors of Mongolia, therefore the country always intends to boost relations and cooperation with every member of the EU. Regardless of the election results, Mongolia will stand firmly on its position towards the EU, its member states and international organizations for further consolidation.” Elbegdorj said.

Emphasizing that the Mongolia-EU Partnership and Cooperation Agreement is very important for bringing the bilateral relations up to a new level, the President believes that EU members will ratify this document.
