Mongolia to host int’l throatsinging festival

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Fourth International Khoomii (throatsinging) Festival is to take place on July 6-9 in Chandmani soum, Khovd province of Mongolia, the “birthplace of throatsinging”. The biannual festival will select best artists and be followed by a scientific conference.

The organizing committee has planned an expedition to showcase the history of khoomii and deriving of the types of khoomii base tones. Also, a concert is expected to be staged in Ulaanbaatar, bringing together the best khoomii artists and bands selected from the festival.

Mongolian traditional art – khoomii was inscribed in the representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO in 2010.
