Women lawmakers make press briefing
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Women members of the State Great Khural (Parliament) of Mongolia, L.Erdenechimeg, M.Batchimeg, Z.Bayanselenge, Ts.Oyungerel, G.Uyanga and D.Sarangerel called a press conference on June 10 to make briefing on the activities of the female representative in the legislature for the past four years.
As a result of the last parliamentary elections, 11 women were elected to parliament from 5 different political parties. Although 11 in 76 is not a good performance in terms of equality, many befenicial bills for the sake of the people have been submitted and enforced, says the MPs.
The women parliamentarians have worked together on developing drafts of Laws against domestic violence, on babysitting service, on health insurance, tobacco control, medical care and services, on culture, waste management, rights of the disabled, rights of the children, child protection, Mongolian language, lease, traffic safety, on taking Tosonbumba Mountains under special protection, and on organic foods.
Moreover, they have attached greater importance to increasing the investment in school and university campuses and dormitories, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sciences. As a result, 152 kindergartens and extensions to kindergartens have been built on the national level.
In the period between 2012 and 2016, Ts.Oyungerel had been appointed as the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, S.Oyun and D.Oyunkhorol – as the Minister of Environment and Green Development, N.Udval– as the Minister of Health, Z.Bayanselenge – as the Minister of Construction and Urban Development, R.Burmaa – as the Minister of Food and Agriculture,and L.Erdenechimeg MP has been working as the head of the Standing committee on the Environment, food and agriculture.
The women members of Mongolian parliament highlighted that their main focus was the fight against domestic violence.
