Parliament resolves to run readings of draft amendments to Election Law
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ At the plenary meeting of the State Great Khural (parliament) on Friday, 86 percent of MPs approved of discussing the General Law on Election, prepared by R.Burmaa MP and others.
A reading of draft amendments to the same law, developed by MPs led by Su.Batbold, was also backed, with 98 percent approval, moreover, a draft amendment submitted by O.Baasankhuu MP was backed with 58 percent as well. Kh.Temuujin MP’s draft amendment was also backed for a reading, with 90 percent votes.
The four drafts were transferred to the Standing committee on state structure for preparations for a first readings by parliament.
In two of the above four drafts, parliament is outlined to maintain the current 48x28 system, another one suggests changing to 38x38 system.
The MPs did not approve of that R.Burmaa’s proposal to reduce election campaign’s duration from 21 days to 14 days, on the motives that the voters should be able to get enough information about the candidates.
R.Burmaa MP said the clause can be revised.
