Darkhan-Erdenet Thermal Plant expansion project to commence

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A preliminary consultative meeting of the negotiations on the Mongolia-Germany Intergovernmental Development Policy Cooperation was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia October 19.

The sides exchanged information on the current status of the Mongolian-German economic cooperation and further actions. Then, some Ministries gave presentations on the projects in light of the cooperation in “Promoting Sustainable Management of Mineral Resources”, “Changes in Biological Species” and “Energy Efficiency”, which are the priorities of the two countries’ development policy cooperation.

The sides signed follow-up agreement of the 2014 negotiations of Intergovernmental Development Policy Cooperation, including 2013 and 2014/2015 agreements on financial cooperation.

Projects on Darkhan-Erdenet Thermal Plant expansion and on Ulaanbaatar-Mandalgovi power grid are expected to be executed in accordance with the above agreements.

Present at the meeting were the Mongolian delegates from Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Mining, Energy, Education, Culture and Sciences, Labor and of Industry, headed by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Kh.Gantsogt. The German side was represented by a delegation headed by Gisela Hammerschmidt, a Deputy Director-General of the Federal Ministry of Germany for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The Development Policy Cooperation negotiations will take place in Germany next year.
