Winners of English Essay Contest awarded

The Mongol Messenger, English weekly newspaper operated by the national news agency MONTSAME in collaboration with the British Embassy in Mongolia and MIAT Mongolian Airlines, organized an essay contest in English among 10-12 grade students of high schools in Ulaanbaatar. An award ceremony of the contest was held on December 27 in the Press Center of MONTSAME news agency.

 

Deputy Director of MONTSAME news agency Sh.Batbold and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Mongolia Philip Malone delivered opening remarks at the event. In his remarks, Mr. Philip Malone expressed gratitude for organizing the contest and congratulated the contestants, highlighting their essays were written very well.

 

Student of Sant School Kh.Dashnyam won the first place, followed by Ch.Esui, student of Mongolian Russian Joint School, while the third place prize went to S.Ganchimeg, student of Goethe School. They were granted with winner’s cup, cash awards of MNT500.000, MNT300.000 and MNT200.000 as well as gifts of the co-organizer, British Embassy in Mongolia.

 

Present at the award ceremony were Director General of the MONTSAME News Agency B.Ganchimeg, the first editor-in-chief of Mongol Messenger Ch.Burenbayar and students who took part in the competition.

 

The essay contest is aimed at encouraging students to improve English writing skills, discovering youths’ views about their country - Mongolia and contributing towards promotion of Mongolia abroad. Under the topic ‘Core values of Mongolia’, the first contest involved a total of 58 students from over 10 schools The best essays will be published on the Mongol Messenger newspaper and the first place winner’s  essay on the Mongolia Today magazine. 

The contest will be organized annually.
