Mongolia harvests over 220 thousand tons of crop

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The land farming sector has seen crop loss on 133 thousand hectares land this year, reported the corresponding Minister on November 1.

During the Cabinet’s regular meeting, B.Batzorig, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry reported on the preliminary harvest balance.

On the national level, 393.6 thousand hectares area was cultivated for crop, including 367.2 thousand hectares for wheat, 14.9 thousand hectares for potatoes, 7.5 thousand hectares for vegetables, 78.2 thousand hectares for oil plants, 28.2 thousand hectares for fodder plants and 1.9 thousand hectares for medicinal plants this year.

The Minister reported that weather conditions such as lack of precipitation for 40-50 days and heat wave of 32-41 degrees Celsius for about 10 days in agricultural regions resulted in loss of crop. Moreover, continued rain in August affected the quality and amount of crop. As such, Mongolia lost crop on 133 thousand hectares land, including 107 thousand hectares wheat land.

According to the Minister, the country harvested 223 thousand tons of crop, including 216.2 thousand wheat, 113.9 thousand tons of potatoes and 75.8 thousand tons of vegetables this autumn. The land farming sector has supplied 120 thousand tons of wheat to flour mills.
