Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Today, August 18, a consultative meeting to discuss the implementation of the Government Resolution on some measures for 2017 winter preparation in agricultural sector began in the State House.

The cabinet members, Governors of the capital and aimags are participating in the meeting where they discuss the implementation of the resolution in detail, improving the coordination of ministries and aimags in winter preparation works as well as plans and policy regarding overcoming winter with less loss in animal husbandry, the main food supplier of the population, in case adverse weather continues and the sector faces natural disaster.

Head of Cabinet Secretariat J.Munkhbat made an opening speech noting, "- The passing spring and summer months were not good for agricultural production. More than 20 percent of the territory has suffered drought, and over 50 percent has had dry weather. Due to the extremely hot days and droughts, pasture and hay crops are late, and crop yields of wheat, potatoes, vegetables and fodder are decreasing. The herd has been unable to fully gain weight and  herders started to move to aimags and soums where the condition is a bit better. Following this, infectious diseases of animals have spread. Therefore, we need to pay much more attention than the previous years’ in completing winter preparations for the coming months”.

The attendants highlighted the necessity to provide conditions for haymaking and meat preparation by coordinating and supporting the stakeholders in negotiating and reaching to agreement.
