On the occasion of the 857th anniversary of the birth of Chinggis Khaan, which is being celebrated as the Day of National Pride today, November 27, an award ceremony of the Order of Chinggis Khaan, the most prestigious and supreme state prize was organized at the State House.

Mongolian rock band The Hu was awarded the Order of Chinggis Khaan by the decree of the President of Mongolia Kh.Battulga, becoming the 12th recipient of the highest award in Mongolia.

State Honored Artist of Mongolia B.Dashdondog, founder and producer of the band took part in the award ceremony to accept the award from President Kh.Batulga on behalf of the Hu band as the is currently on a tour across the US and Canada.

In his remarks at the award ceremony, the President Kh.Battulga said that the Hu band being honored with the Order of Chinggis Khaan reminds him of the English rock band the Beatles receiving the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire medals from Queen Elizabeth II in 1965 for increasing the reputation of their country across the world. “I am pleased to present this award of the state of Mongolia to the Hu Band for exact same reason for promoting the name of Mongolia to the world and glorifying the nation on the international arena”.

Since 2005, the first-class state decoration of Mongolia—the Chinggis Khaan Order—has been conferred on distinguished citizens who made invaluable contributions to strengthening the independence and sovereignty of Mongolia and the unity of the people and promoting the historical and cultural heritages of Mongolia to the future generations and to the world, and performed great deeds for the state, community, and the nation, as reported by the Office of the President of Mongolia.

With regard to the Hu band becoming a laureate of the the Order of Chinggis Khaan, a decision has been made to bestow the prize on either individual, a group of people or an organization, adjusting the former rule of awarding only one individual.

Today at the ceremony, the Hu Band’s founder and producer was presented with the Order of Chinggis Khaan, placed in a frame and each 11 members of the band, including the band’s producer and manager, were awarded with small-sized prize of the Order of Chinggis Khaan. Manager of the Hu band Brandon Friesen became the first foreign citizen to receive the Order of Chinggis Khaan.

The Hu is a band with its own music genre ‘Hunnu rock’ inspired from the ancient Mongolian empire the Hun, combining heavy metal with Mongolian musical instruments Morin khuur /horde-head fiddle/, tsuur /fife/, tovshuur and others and traditional Mongolian throat singing. Founded in 2016 by Mongolian music producer B.Dashdondog, the Hu band released their first album ‘Gereg’ in the USA in September with Eleven Seven Label Group, which reached number one in the World Albums chart by Billboard this week. This is the first time ever an album by a Mongolian band taken the top ranking on the Billboard Music chart.

In April 2019, their song “Wolf Totem” first hit the Billboard chart, ranking 22nd in the Hot Rock Songs category. At the same time, the song topped the Billboard’s chart Hard Rock Digital Song Sales thanks to the massive popularity it gained on social media platforms, while another song of the band  - ‘Yuve Yuve Yu’ was ranked 7th on the same chart.
