Rio Tinto appoints B.Bold CEO of Energy&Minerals Group

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Bold Baatar was appointed on November 16 the CEO of the Rio Tinto’s Energy & Minerals Group. B.Bold has been working in Rio Tinto since 2013, holding positions of the President of International Operations of the Copper Group, the Director of Rio Tinto Marine and the Managing Director of Iron Ore Sales & Marketing of Rio Tinto Marine.

According to the official media release on his appointment, “Bold held a number of senior investment banking roles with JP Morgan before taking on chief executive positions with a gold mining company and a diversified investment management business in Mongolia. He joined Rio Tinto in 2013 as Copper International Operations president and is the managing director of Marine and vice president Iron Ore Sales and Marketing.

Rio Tinto chief executive J-S Jacques said “Appointing Bold to run our Energy & Minerals business will add a fresh perspective to the product group. Bold brings broad international and executive experience in a wide range of commercial disciplines. He has a proven track record and will be a great addition to our ExCo, particularly with his strong strategic approach and acute understanding of Asia.”

Until 2009, Bold was an investment banker with JPMorgan for 11 years in New York and London focusing on private equity and leveraged buyout transactions, M&A and issuance of public equity and debt securities.

He was the chairman of Mongolian Stock Exchange from 2010 to 2012, chairman of the Mongolian Mining Association from 2012 to 2014 and served as the non-executive director on the board of Southgobi Resources Ltd from 2013 to 2014.

Born in Mongolia, Bold graduated from Mongolian Technical University with a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering. He also holds an MBA degree from the University Of Bridgeport, the United States.
