Mongolian Artist Crowned Winner of ‘Silk Way Star’ Song Competition

Ulaanbaatar, November 24, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The long-awaited final stage of “Silk Way Star,” Asia’s first mega-project song competition, successfully concluded in Astana, Kazakhstan. The television project stands out as unprecedented in scale and has captivated millions of viewers in Kazakhstan and abroad throughout its ten-episode run.


At the beginning of the final, State Counsellor Erlan Karin delivered the congratulatory message of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. In his message, the President stated, Silk Way Star is a unique initiative aimed at deepening the cultural and spiritual ties among Asian countries and strengthening friendly relations between peoples. This project is a vivid example of cultural diplomacy, clearly showcasing the traditions and artistic achievements of the nations.


The final show marked the culmination of weeks of artistic competition, highlighting vocal performance, stage design, production quality, and international collaboration at a high level, turning the event into a significant platform for cultural exchange among countries. In terms of scope and production format, Silk Way Star is now comparable to major global song contests such as Eurovision.


Seven top contestants representing Mongolia, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, China, Uzbekistan, and Malaysia performed in the final. Each artist sang in their native language, presenting the cultural heritage and diverse musical styles of their respective nations. The performances stood out with unique arrangements, striking visual elements, and stage concepts specially crafted by Kazakhstani stylists for the grand finale.


Kazakhstani People’s Artist Dimash Kudaibergen announced the winner of Asia’s first major song competition: “The winner of the first season of the Silk Way Star project is Michelle Josef from Mongolia!”


The award was presented by Wang Delu, First Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Eurasia Bureau of China Media Group and partner of the Presidential Television and Radio Complex of Kazakhstan, together with Raushan Kazhibayeva, Director General of the Kazakhstan President’s Television and Radio Complex.



The winner of the first season was determined through a combined system of jury evaluation (50%) and public online voting (50%), with viewers casting their votes via silkwaystar.org. The final episode was broadcast live on the Jibek Joly channel and aired simultaneously in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Mongolia.



Throughout the season, millions of viewers from various countries closely followed the performances of talented contestants participating in this international mega-project. Silk Way Star was implemented under the cooperation agreement between the Kazakhstan President’s Television and Radio Complex and the China Media Group.


President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev extended his congratulations to all participants of the Silk Way Star project on successfully concluding this prestigious international song competition.
