FMESU Demands Salary Increase with Peaceful Rally

Ulaanbaatar, September 25, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Federation of Mongolian Education and Science Unions (FMESU) has submitted a demand to the State Great Khural and the Government of Mongolia to increase teachers’ salaries.


According to the Ministry of Education, Minister of Education Naranbayar Purevsuren personally received the demand letter on September 24, 2025, at Sukhbaatar Square.


On this occasion, Minister Naranbayar expressed readiness to cooperate within the legal framework on the issue of raising teachers’ salaries.


At a time when the State Great Khural is deliberating the 2026 budget for the education sector, the Federation organized a peaceful rally at the central square on September 24, 2025, joined by teachers from the Capital city, aimags, and districts. The union is demanding to set the base salary of teachers at MNT 3.5 million, address teacher shortages, and improve social protection.


According to the Ministry of Education, as of March 2025, there are 30,806 teachers nationwide. Adviser to the Minister of Education, D. Gantulga, explained, “The base salary of teachers nationwide is currently MNT 1,484,000. In addition, five types of allowances are calculated, including overtime, class leadership, laboratory management, leadership of teaching methodology units, and teaching of children with disabilities.”
