Mongolia to Strengthen Cooperation with the Kingdom of Bhutan Across All Sectors

Ulaanbaatar, August 8, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Inaugural Consultative Meeting between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and the Kingdom of Bhutan was held in Ulaanbaatar on August 7, 2025.


The meeting was co-chaired by State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, Munkhtushig Lkhanaajav, and State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Bhutan, Pema Choden.


At the outset, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, Munkhtushig Lkhanaajav, underlined that Mongolia and the Kingdom of Bhutan, as landlocked developing countries, have broad opportunities to intensify cooperation in all sectors by sharing development experiences and best practices. The State Secretary expressed Mongolia’s commitment to deepening collaboration in such fields as the economy, agriculture, education, and healthcare.


State Secretary Pema Choden noted that the State Visit of His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to Mongolia in 2024 was a historic event that strengthened the foundations of bilateral relations. State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Bhutan, Pema Choden emphasized that there are vast opportunities for the two sides to work together to realize the initiatives agreed upon by the Heads of State.


The two sides highlighted that this first consultative meeting marked an important step in elevating the friendly and close relations between Mongolia and Bhutan to a new level. The sides agreed to institutionalize and regularly hold consultative meetings between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries going forward.
