Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh working in farming regions

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh is on working trip to Tuv, Darkhan-Uul and Selenge aimags. Today morning, the PM got acquainted with the crop harvesting process of ‘Uguuj sumber’ LLC operating in Tuv aimag.
Sumber soum has completely harvested vegetables, but its wheat harvesting is running at around 60 percent. The farmers said
that government’s announcement on establishing a specific farming region has been helpful to develop intensified animal husbandry and make locals and farmers
understand and support each other.
Overall farming area makes
up 0.5 percent of Mongolia’s total territory and it is very important to
provide population with healthy foods constantly, told U.Khurelsukh to the
farmers.
Next year will mark 60th anniversary of cultivation of virgin land in Mongolia and development of agrarian sector. Welcoming this historical anniversary, corresponding Ministry has commenced creative measures ‘Atar-60’.
During the spring sowing
2018, 497.2 thousand hectares of areas were cultivated for crop, including
367.3 thousand hectares for grain of which 343.1 thousand hectares were for
wheat, 13 thousand hectares for potatoes, 8.3 thousand hectares for vegetables,
68.9 thousand hectares for oil plants and 38.8 thousand hectares for fodder
plants.
According to preliminary
harvesting balance, it is expected to harvest 450.3 thousand tons of grain of
which 425.8 thousand tons of wheat, 151 thousand tons of potatoes, 95.1
thousand tons of vegetables, 30.1 thousand tons of oil plants and 86.3 thousand
tons of fodder plants.
