89th “Mongolian Athletes’ Day” Celebrated

Ulaanbaatar, July 2, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The 89th “Mongolian Athletes’ Day” was celebrated on June 27, 2025, convening generations of athletes who have raised the renown of their homeland on continental, world, and Olympic stages at Sukhbaatar Square.


The Minister of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth, Undram ChinbatChairman of the National Committee of Physical Education and Sports of Mongolia, E. Bilegt, and the First Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Mongolia, Ch. Naranbaatar, along with other officials, attended the 89th ceremony and expressed their respect to the athletes.


At the opening of the ceremonial event, the Minister of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy, Undram Chinbat, emphasized, “The foremost priorities are to streamline the governance structure of the state administration of the physical education and sports sector, to refine the legal and regulatory environment, and to focus on instilling healthy lifestyle habits among citizens by assessing the physical development levels of citizens, providing recommendations and information, digitalizing training and coaching activities, and cultivating independent active movement and engagement in sports activities among the public.”


Representatives of the physical education and sports sectors presented their notable achievements in celebration of this festive day. As of the first half of 2025, a total of 133 events were organized in 21 aimags and nine districts, involving 108,000 citizens from 1,636 organizations. In addition, within the framework of the concept of regional development, the “Citizens' Sports Festival” was organized in four stages across the Khangai, Northern, Gobi, and Central regions, with more than 23,600 citizens competing in various sports disciplines. National team athletes won 92 medals, including 19 golds, in the first six months of the year.


Furthermore, under Government Resolution No. 183 of 2018, the 8th Summer Games of Mongolian Children were organized in two stages under the motto “Let Us Compete Fairly for Our Dreams,” involving over 15,000 child athletes in 31 sports disciplines, with 6,120 athletes competing for 286 medal sets in the final tournament. Additionally, the “National Physical Education and Sports Inventory Census” was conducted nationwide, with statistics indicating that as of the first half of 2025, the number of sports facilities nationwide has increased to 1,265 indoor sports halls and 1,127 outdoor sports fields. Sports sector representatives highlighted that the accessibility of sports facilities and opportunities for the public to engage in physical education and sports is increasing every year.
