Sandalwood leaf hat of Undur Gegeen Zanabazar

The sandalwood hat of Undur gegeen /High Enlightened One-titled/ Zanabazar, the first Jebtsundamba Khutagt, a prominent Mongolian statesman, religious and cultural figure, is currently being kept as an important historical exhibit in the Bogd Khan Palace Museum.
The hat was made in the 17th century by anonymous craftsmen in cymbal-shape out of white sandalwood leaves, with a turquoise inlaid base and a coral top. The hat is 12 centimeters high, 37 centimeters in diameter and weighs 180 grams.
This hat was presented to Undur Gegeen Zanabazar during his visit to Tibet by his teacher, Banchinbogd IV Luvsanchoijijaltsan, along with a wooden house with a yellow lock made of silver, according to the biography of Undur Gegeen Zanabazar.
It requires excellent craftsmanship skills to make a hat out of tree leaves, and Undur Gegeen Zanabazar's sandalwood hat is considered one of the most valuable exhibits in Mongolia.
