On the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the Proclamation of the Mongolian People’s Republic with the adoption of the first Constitution, a ceremony took place for 850 students from nine districts of Ulaanbaatar, and 21 aimags of the country to take the oath of Mongolian Citizenship at the State House on November 26.

Representatives of the new generation of 16 years olds participate in the ceremony, of which aims are to develop patriotism in the younger generations, help them realize their responsibility for the country and citizens, and be proud of the national history and culture. The annual ceremony is being organized for the 17th year this year.

During the ceremony, Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh told the children to safeguard the national unity, highlighting the time in history where Mongolians were able to conquer half of the world as we were all united, but came to be under the oppression of others when divided. He then congratulated the students for officially becoming citizens of Mongolia by taking their oaths on the 95th anniversary of the Proclamation of the Mongolian People’s Republic.

Representing the students that gathered, 11th grade student of School no.77 of Bayangol district N.Uyanga highlighted how children and youth have the opportunity to develop Mongolia in her remarks.

Noting that how a 16-year-old student named Greta Thunberg, who was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize as she demanded action from authorities against climate change, showed how much opportunity 16-year-olds have, she called for her peers to be responsible, creative, and leader citizens. She also asked for government higher-ups to also consider the voices of children and youth in their work to define the country’s future development.

A total of 42,822 Mongolian citizens are turning 16 years old, receiving their identity cards this year.
