The General Election Commission today informed about its decision to conduct a second ballot on July 9 in Mongolia and on July 4 overseas.
The preliminary results of the presidential election show that Democratic Party candidate Kh.Battulga led the ballot with 517,478 votes (38.11 percent), whereas Mongolian People’s Party candidate M.Enkhbold followed with 411,748 votes (30.32 percent) with Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party candidate S.Ganbaatar collecting 409,899 votes (30.19 percent).
The General Election Commission held a meeting on the preliminary results, and took the decision to conduct the second ballot since neither party won the ballot with majority of votes. As such, DP candidate Kh.Battulga and MPP candidate M.Enkhbold will stand in the run-off.
In cases of less than 50 percent voter turnout and failure to win the ballot by majority, Mongolia will hold the presidential election again.
