“Rural lifestyle: changes and tendencies” discussion held
VideoScholars of the sociology and public psychology sector of the Institute of Philosophy of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences claim that 48.8 percent of herders belong to below the mid-income or poor strata. The sector conducted a survey on the herders’ lifestyle and its changes in 5 provinces in 2013-2015. The survey encompassed over 600 herders.
The results of the survey were included in the agenda of the scientific conference themed “Rural lifestyle: changes and tendencies” held today.
Since 1990, herders have been undergoing noticeable changes in their lifestyle owing to modern technical and technological progress. In 2000, 40.9 percent of the population of Mongolia was engaged in animal husbandry, whereas in 2015 this figure declined to 30.5 percent.
Rural girls who moved to the city to get higher education tend to settle down in the city. This fact entails a decrease in marriage rate in the rural areas. Scholars claim that the government have to take certain steps towards creating all opportunities for herders to live comfortable by developing infrastructure in rural areas.
