2016 archaeological findings introduced

On January 12-13, an academic conference designated to introduce the outcome of work done by archaeological expeditions in Mongolia was held at Mongolian University of Science and Technology. The conference has gathered more than 160 archaeologists who have enriched the existing list of Mongolian archaeological treasures with their fresh finds in 2016.

The ‘Mongolian Archeology – 2016’ conference presented the most interesting archaeological findings including unique petroglyphs and iron melting furnace of Hunnu era discovered in Sukhbaatar province, Xianbei era tombs found in Bayan-Ulgii and Orkhon province, Turkic and Uighur aristocrats’ sacred tomb and rock grave found in Bayan-Ulgii and Khovd provinces.

In 2016, Mongolian archaeologists have realized projects and programs in cooperation with scholars and organizations from 12 countries to conduct exploration in more than 50 soums of 18 provinces.

On the sidelines of the conference, two exhibitions – “Mongolian Archaeologists’ and ‘Mongolia through the eyes of archaeologists’ were organized.
