North-East Asian Mayors’ Forum under a theme “Green City Development” began on Monday  at the Consensus Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia. The participants will make 20 presentations under seven environmental themes.

The cities of the North East Asian region will issue their combined recommendations at the conference to be presented to the UN Conference on Climate Change, which will be held in Paris this December.

Mayor of Ulaanbaatar Mr Bat-Uul has delivered an opening speech in which he emphasized that during the first North East Asian Mayors’ Forum held last year in Ulaanbaatar, the participants have discussed the issues of ensuring sustainable urban development, rapid urbanization and environmental degradation caused by high population density, and thus, they have strengthened the cooperation between the cities.

On the 1st day of the event, the participants took part in three sub-conferences under the themes “Green Development Perspectives, Challenges and Strategies of North-East Asian cities”, “Green Infrastructure” and “Green Lifestyle and Education”.
