Foreign Minister receives newly-appointed UNFPA Mongolia Head of Office

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Minister of Foreign Affairs B.Battsetseg today received Head of Office at UNFPA Mongolia Dr. Khalid Sharifi upon taking up his appointment.


Underscoring UNFPA’s valuable contributions to protecting the health of mothers and infants, supporting the development of children and youth, and combating gender-based violence, Minister B.Battsetseg expressed confidence that UNFPA's 7th Country Program for Mongolia to be implemented in 2023-2027 will be of utmost importance to the realization of Mongolia's social and economic goals.


Dr. Khalid Sharifi noted that the Government of Mongolia has taken immediate action against the COVID-19 pandemic and is successfully overcoming the pandemic as a result of immunization, and expressed satisfaction with the 6th Country Program, which is being implemented between 2017 and 2022.


Prior to his appointment as Head of Office for UNFPA in Mongolia, Khalid Sharifi served as UNFPA Assistant Representative in Afghanistan since July 2018. Before that, Khalid Sharifi served as Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Specialist in UNFPA Afghanistan for more than three years.
