Mongolia Receives Ten Medals at the Asian Wrestling Championship

Ulaanbaatar, April 15, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The Asian Wrestling Championship for freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling is taking place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on April 11-16, 2024.

The freestyle wrestling category of this tournament concluded on April 14, 2024, with Mongolian athletes earning ten medals. The male athletes achieved two gold and two silver medals, placing fifth in the overall team rankings. Specifically, E. Byambadorj and T. Tulga won gold medals, while E. Enkhbold and D. Batzula won silver medals. Three of them won their first medals from the Asian Wrestling Championship.

All eight female wrestlers who competed for medals stood on the podium. T. Enkhjin and B. Anudari wrestled in the finals and won silver medals. Ch. Otgontuya, S. Tserenchimed, Z. Bolortungalag, and E. Delgermaa secured bronze medals. The women's team finished third behind Japan and China and won the bronze trophy.

The first group of athletes participating in the Asian championship will return home on April 17, 2024, while some will stay in Bishkek to prepare for the Olympic qualifying tournament. The Olympic qualifying tournament will start in Bishkek on April 19, 2024, and the first athletes group will leave Mongolia today for the city. From Mongolia, three male and four female athletes will compete in the Asian regional tournament for Olympic qualification.

On April 15, 2024, Greco-Roman wrestling commenced. For the first time, Mongolia fielded its Greco-Roman wrestling team to participate with six athletes in the Olympic weight category.
