Ulaanbaatar, April 15, 2024 /MONTSAME/. Ulaanbaatar's recycling factories can process up to 44,420 tons of plastic per year.

The study, conducted under the "Ensuring the Sustainability of Plastic Waste Recycling in Mongolia" Project, found that the capacity of these factories is insufficient to handle the annual plastic waste in Ulaanbaatar. Of the 22 business enterprises involved in the study, 14 are interested in increasing their recycling capacity, expanding their product range, and upgrading their equipment. Some are also interested in building improvements, equipment upgrades, loans for final product manufacturing, and investment. However, no plans exist for the six companies to increase their recycling capacity. These companies haven't worked even once due to volatile secondary raw material prices caused by market instability and competition.

Out of the 24 plastic recycling factories in the Capital, 42 percent manufacture plastic pellets and granules, 8 percent manufacture semi-processed products or end products from pellets and granules, 25 percent manufacture end products from plastic waste, and the remaining 25 percent manufacture either semi-processed or end products.
