Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ ‘Mongol Export Expo-2019’, a fair of leather and cashmere products was opened on October 17 at Misheel expo center. The expo, which is being held within the 85th anniversary of foundation of industrial sector in Mongolia, aims to enhance quality and standard of export-oriented products, promote goods to consumers, support their sales and make a one-spot purchase.
More than 110 entities that operate in fields of leather, cashmere, printing, package, building materials, recycling, food and beauty products are partaking in the expo being jointly held by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, the Mongolian Association of Leather Industry, the Mongolian Wool and Cashmere Association and Misheel Expo Center.
"Products of light industry sector were mainly presented at Mongolia-China Expo that took place last September in Inner Mongolia. The Mongolian Government is implementing three national programs ‘Industrialization 21:100’, ‘Cashmere’ and ‘Mongol Export’ to increase export of non-mining products. All these programs together aim to open markets to the manufacturers. Production capacity has been upped by 30 percent thanks to launch of ‘Cashmere’ program. The Light Industry sector made sell of MNT 1.3 trillion last year, which used to be about MNT 900 billion a year. As the second largest producer of cashmere, Mongolia is striving towards using the opportunity effectively and manufacturing value-added products," said B.Batkhuu, Head of Industrial Policy Coordination Department of the MFALI.
Executive Director of the Mongolian Association of Leather Industry T.Bayarsaikhan noted that Mongolia is exporting semi-finished leather to the countries such as China, Italy, Spain, Turkey and the Republic of Korea. Though there is huge export of semi-finished leather, we are intending to increase export of value-added final goods. In order to reduce adverse impact of this kind of manufacturing to the environment, carpenter’s glue and technical gelatin are being made of waste leather and exported to China. Moreover, horse mane and tail hair is being processed, sorted by colors and length and exported to China from last spring. We are aiming to export such kind of products to European countries further.
The Mongol Export Expo 2019 will run until October 21 at Misheel Expo Center.
