Deputy Environment Minister meets Acting Director for Asia in the EU International Partnerships

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism G.Tuvdendorj received Acting Director for Asia in the EU International Partnerships Jean-Louis Ville on March 2.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on Mongolia’s nationwide campaign ‘One billion trees’ initiated by President U.Khurelsukh and cooperation in forestry sector.  

Mr.Tuvdendorj emphasized that projects and programs implemented by EU and its member countries are contributing substantially to the protection of biological diversity, adaptation to climate change, introduction of biosafety methods and solutions, training of personnel and development of external cooperation. He also appreciated that EU-funded projects have made significant contribution in ensuring biosafety during the pandemic.

Mr. Jean-Louis Ville said that the nationwide campaign ‘One billion trees’ initiated by the Mongolian President is the best solution to protect and develop the environment and forestry, adding that it is called the leading initiative not only in Europe but also in Asia. 

The sides agreed to cooperate in reducing deforestation, land degradation and greenhouse gas emissions and developing forestry.

At the end of the meeting, Mr.Tuvdendorj said that talks with the EU and its member states on intensifying cooperation in the forestry sector will be continued, and expressed readiness to cooperate in all possible ways in the framework of the ‘One billion trees’ campaign and the creation of green jobs.
