Modern Storage Warehouses in Selenge to Add 2,800 Tons of Vegetable Storage Capacity
Economy
Ulaanbaatar, October 7, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Currently, there are 5,989 cellars and warehouses for potatoes and vegetables in Mongolia, with a total storage capacity of 305,000 tons, according to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry (MOFALI). However, this capacity falls short by approximately 170,000 tons compared to the country’s vegetable and potato consumption needs and harvest volume.
In line with the Resolution on
Ensuring Food Supply and Security, issued by the State Great Khural, storage
capacity was increased by 33,000 tons between 2023 and 2024.
For 2025, MNT 13.5 billion has
been earmarked in the state budget to build standardized storage facilities in
seven soums of Selenge aimag: Orkhon, Mandal, Bayangol, Shaamar, Khushaat,
Javkhlant, and Zuunburen. These facilities, with capacities of 200 and 500
tons, are being constructed using a unified design and budget.
Once operational, the new warehouses
will add a total of 2,800 tons of modern, mechanized cold storage capacity
capable of functioning year-round. This will enable local vegetable farmers to
store and sell their harvest regardless of the season. It will also support
advancements in storage, sorting, packaging, and value-added processing of
vegetables in the region.
