MONTSAME National News Agency in cooperation with the Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery is presenting a series of Mongolian fine art masterpieces. This time, we are presenting the artwork, ‘Lords of the Steppe’ by State Prize laureate Ulziikhutag Yondon.

Ulziikhutag painted the artwork with oil on a 160x160 cm canvas in 1982. The painter portrayed rural wranglers – descendants of the fearless and mighty Mongolian warriors – and added lassoes, saddle, and horses to highlight each person. He represented a single moment making feeling of orange rays of the setting sun and the gentle breezes of the steppe as if it was captured with a camera. ‘Lords of the Steppe’ is currently being kept in the golden treasury of the Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery.

One of the most prominent realist painters of Mongolia, Ulziikutag, was born in Luus soum of Dundgobi aimag in 1950. He started his art career in 1968 and later graduated from the Ilya Repin Academy of Fine Arts in Leningrad, USSR in 1977.
