Ulaanbaatar hosts FIBA 3x3 Challenger 2017

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ “FIBA 3x3 Ulaanbaatar Challenger” basketball tour, which qualifies two teams for FIBA 3x3 World Tour Utsunomiya Masters, was held on 03-04 June at Sukhbaatar Square. A total of 16 teams competed including from Brazil, Japan, Australia, Spain, Russia, France, Czech, North Korea and 5 teams from Mongolia.
President of Mongolian 3x3 Basketball Association L.Myagmarjav said, "- This tournament has been a big challenge for Mongolian basketball players as they will compete with high level professionals. Our association runs vigorous activities. Last year, Mongolian players won a gold medal at the World Student Festival and also gained a ticket to take part in the World Championship in Japan, winning last year’s world champion during the Nanjing Challenger. Our association will implement a development program for youth aged 16-23, alongside professional tours, as agreed with FIBA".
“FIBA 3x3 ranks countries depending on success of individual athletes and the team.The more often the team participates in tournaments and gains scores, the more chance it will have to take part in big games”.
Five weeks ago, Ulaanbaatar Garuda team became the first-ever Mongolian team to qualify for the FIBA 3x3 World Tour. Mongolian basketball team has ranked up at 66th from 160 within a short period of time.
“Liman”, a team from Serbia won “FIBA 3x3 Ulaanbaatar Challenger” basketball tour, following Novi Sad Al Wahda from Serbia, Malaga from Spain and Ljubljana from Slovenia. The tour was broadcasted in 144 countries.
