Ulaanbaatar, 2024 February 12 /MONTSAME/. To minimize earthquake disaster risk, and prevent and strengthen the disaster resistance capacity the Capital City Mayor’s Office jointly with the Capital City Urban Development Agency has developed model blueprints of disaster-resistant, electricity-efficient houses that meet the existing norms and standards.

The model blueprints of houses with masonry or concrete construction varying 40, 60, 80, 100, and 120 square meters are ready for citizens and legal entities to use free of charge.

The blueprints of 8-magnitude- earthquake-proof houses have several options regarding different types of soil structures and independent or centrally connected infrastructures. The Capital City Urban Development Agency stated that a house plan is required to get a green housing loan from commercial banks and the model blueprint can be used to meet the requirement.

As part of the Strengthening the Capacity of Seismic Disaster Risk Management in Ulaanbaatar Project the Japan International Cooperation Agency conducted an earthquake disaster risk assessment of the capital city in 2012-2013. According to that assessment, 47.8 percent of buildings in the central six districts and 80 percent of the ger districts were defined as at high risk of collapsing in earthquakes.
