Mongolia won 14 medals at World Y&J&C Sambo Championships 2022

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The World Youth, Junior, and Cadets SAMBO Championships 2022 was held on October 14-16 in Yerevan, Armenia. For three days, cadets, youth, and juniors from 23 countries competed for the opportunity to rise to the coveted podium in Armenia.


About 500 athletes took part in the main continental sambo tournament. Mongolia and Kazakhstan were the only other countries to win a gold medal on an opening day. On the 3rd day of the tournament, O.Oyunchimeg won the gold medal in the female 59 kg weight class. D.Yesui also took the silver medal in the 65 kg weight class on that day. In the men`s 64 kg weight class T.Turbold claimed the silver medal.


At the tournament, Mongolia won 3 gold, 7 silver, and 4 bronze medals, and took 3rd place in the team ranking.


“This is the first time in the history of the International Sambo Federation, combat sambo fights were held among juniors. Juniors who are already adult athletes (18-20 years old) got the opportunity to try their hand at the World Youth, Junior, and Cadets SAMBO Championships. Subsequently, when entering the mat in the main tournament of the FIAS calendar – the World SAMBO Championships, the guys will have invaluable experience behind them”, said FIAS President Vasily Shestakov.


The organizing country, Armenia, won 20 medals at the World Youth Junior Cadets Sambo Championship and took 1st place in the team ranking. Athletes from Kyrgyzstan won 17 medals and took 2nd place in the team ranking.
