First community library opens in Chingeltei district

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A model community library opened in 17th khoroo of Chingeltei district. The project to introduce and develop community libraries in line with international standards is being implemented by Asia-Africa Development Relief Foundation (ADRF) Mongolia and ‘Beyond books’ project team.

With the commencement of the library 5434 children of 17th and 18th khoroo of Chingeltei district will be able to spend spare time in the library, participating in the special programs for creativity development and eliminating learning lag. The library will also develop additional programs for adults, contributing to the improvement of accessibility of education to the public, their livelihoods and providing environment for experience exchange and development.

‘Beyond books’ is initiated by participants of ‘Women leadership’ program co-implemented by Australian scholarship programs in Mongolia and Zorig foundation. Based on this model, similar libraries will be established in other khoroos, districts and rural areas as well.
