Defense Minister attends the Conference on International Security

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Minister of Defense N.Enkhbold participated in the 8th Conference on International Security organized by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. More than 1000 representatives of 111 countries including Defense Ministers, Chiefs of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, scholars and researchers attended the conference which took place in Moscow on April 23-25.

Defense Ministers and commanders of armed forces of the stakeholders made remarks regarding the discussed issues. Minister N.Enkhbold introduced Mongolia’s participation in the International peacekeeping operations.


During the conference, Minister N.Enkhbold held bilateral meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Shoygu and shared views on the cooperation in defense. Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation S.Shoygu expressed gratitude to Minister N.Enkhbold for the warm welcome last year and emphasized the high development of military and military-technical cooperation between Russia and Mongolia.  

Minister S.Shoygu noted that Russia is working on long term extension of the Intergovernmental Agreement on military-technical assistance to Mongolia and confirmed the participation of Alexandrov Ensemble and ‘Strijy’ aerobatic team in the celebration of 80th anniversary of Russia-Mongolia diplomatic relations.

Minister N.Enkhbold in return expressed gratitude for the assistance to the redevelopment of Khalkhgol soum of Dornod aimag and expecting for President of Russia V.Putin to attend the anniversary event. He also proposed to revive the traditional cooperation with the Russian military departments bordering with Mongolia. Mr. S.Shoygu pledged to support the cooperation between the Russian Military District of Dornod and Mongolian Armed Forces and confirmed the upcoming visit of the district commander G.Jidko to Mongolia. In addition, he noted the Russian side is able to provide specialist training on airport facility handed over to Mongolia last year.


Defense Minister N.Enkhbold mentioned about Mongolia’s humanitarian assistance to the people of Syria and expressed gratitude to Russia for being responsible for the transportation of assistance. He also informed that Mongolia will host Horse marathon within the International Army Games organized by the Russian Ministry of Defense. In addition to the traditional competitions, Mongolian Armed Forces will be participating in two new competitions this year and send an observer for the competition.

During the conference, Defense Minister met with his Chinese counterpart Wei Fenghe, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix and Deputy Defense Minister of Russia A.Fomin.
