Barefoot half marathon to be held for the first time

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The ‘Mongolian Steppe’ international marathon initiated by Japanese citizen Fujiwara Tatsuichi in 1997 will be held for the 22nd time under the title ‘Steppe Marathon - Bogd Khan Ultra Trail 50km’.

The marathon is co-organized by the Mongolian Athletics Federation and Showa Holdings of Japan. The Ultra trail and barefoot half marathon will be held for the first time this year.

The Ultra trail marathon features a 50 km distance run from Shavart mountain pass, crossing the Bogd Khan mountain to the Zaisan Hill, giving the opportunity to see the vast steppes, hills, forests and urban areas of Mongolia. The 21 km barefoot half marathon will be held at the Shavart mountain pass on the east of Bogd Khan. Chairman of Japan Barefoot Running Association Tsuyoshi Yoshino and barefoot runners of Japan will participate in the marathon.

In addition to the special sections, marathon with distances of 3, 5, 10 and 21 kilometers will be held at the Shavart pass. More than 1000 national athletes, youth and children and over 200 foreign athletes are expected to participate in the competition.
