President addresses Heads of State Council Meeting at SCO

Astana /MONTSAME/ President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj is attending the 2017 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan. He addressed the SCO Heads of State Council Meeting on June 9, Friday.

After expressing his gratitude to the President and the Government of Kazakhstan, the host country, and congratulating the delegates of India and Pakistan for joining SCO, the Mongolian President remarked on the expansion of SCO in terms of its membership.



“Since gaining the status of an observer state, Mongolia sought to actively engage in the high level meetings and events of SCO member states. Mongolia attentively observes the expansion, progression and future of SCO”, he said.  

The President noted that Mongolia realizes a multilateral, peace-loving, open, independent foreign policy, and has maintained its continuity. “Mongolia prioritizes bolstering its friendly relations with Russia and China”, he said, mentioning the Mongolia-Russia-China trilateral cooperation mechanism.
 
“The shortest, safest, simplest and most cost-efficient infrastructure connecting Russia and Europe with China and Asia can be built through Mongolian territory”, the President said. He called for active participation from SCO member states in such projects and programs which would be a huge opportunity for investors.

“As a country with huge resources of primary energy, Mongolia strives to cooperate with its neighbors on developing energy infrastructure. I encourage you to join us on eco-friendly projects based on Mongolia’s rich resources of solar, wind and hydro energy”.



President Ts.Elbegdorj conveyed Mongolia’s intention to cooperate on science, education, health, environment, disaster management and agriculture sectors within SCO. He also highlighted the importance of international cultural and sporting events in strengthening people-to-people relations and laying the ground for successful implementation of regional projects and initiatives.

The Mongolian President expressed his content with the expanding activities of Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which is growing into an international organization engaged in multilateral activities ranging from security, trade, economy, culture, education and humanitarian fields.
 
He then brought forward Mongolia’s willingness to cooperate with SCO in areas of combating terrorism and drug trafficking. After praising the approval of the SCO antidrug strategy, President Ts.Elbegdorj noted his confidence that strengthening the activities and improving the connectivity among the member states of the SCO is of great significance not only for the development of Mongolia, but also for global peace, stability and prosperity.
