Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The parliament adopted revised law on Prosecutor, during today’s plenary meeting. The bill, consisting of 8 chapters and 70 articles, was submitted last April. Law on Prosecutor’s office was adopted in 1993 and revised in 2002 and has being amended 8 times since then. The law was needed to be revised to coordinate the law with changes in social relations, judiciary reforms, renewed laws and bills applicable to criminal procedure.

The revised law focused on improving actions of prosecutors, putting legal basis of collaboration of prosecutor offices with other institutes, building up social protection of prosecutors and enhancing their accountability.

To the question whether a number of personal staff of prosecutor offices and their budget would be increased following the revised law, relevant officials replied that though there is a need to expand staff due to enlarged duties and functions of prosecutors in connection to renewed Criminal code and Offence law, prosecutors offices are preparing to work with current composition, making necessary management changes and arrangements. However, prosecutor staff should be augmented when the economy improves, officials noted.

The revised law will take effect from 01 July.
