Ulaanbaatar, December 5, 2025 /MONTSAME/. As part of the project Accelerating the Progress Towards the Elimination of Preventable Maternal and Perinatal Mortality, jointly funded by the Ministry of Health of Mongolia, the United Nations Population Fund, and the Government of Luxembourg, portable ultrasound machines and fetal heart monitors have been delivered to soum-level hospitals.

Under this initiative, 22 portable ultrasound machines and 22 fetal heart monitors worth MNT 1.864 billion have been provided to the health centers in 20 soums across 10 aimags, as well as to family clinics in two remote districts of the capital. In obstetric practice, ultrasound examinations and fetal heart monitoring are critically important. Pregnant women are recommended to undergo at least four ultrasound scans during pregnancy, while fetal heart monitoring should begin at eight months’ gestation.

These devices allow early detection of fetal development issues, timely referral to higher-level medical facilities, and prompt medical intervention or delivery management, making them essential tools in improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes.

Training on the use of these diagnostic and monitoring tools, from primary to advanced levels, was conducted at the Urgoo Maternity Hospital in Ulaanbaatar.
