Mongolian Scholars Join International Conference on Hunnu Studies in Hungary

Ulaanbaatar, November 6, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Scholars from the Institute of Archaeology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences and the Chinggis Khaan National Museum have participated in the International Conference on Hunnu Studies held in Budapest, Hungary.
The event was jointly organized by the Hungarian National Museum and the Public Cultural Heritage Agency of Hungary under the theme “The Origin of Eurasian Civilization and Interdisciplinary Research: Archaeological Cultural Networks and Their Interactions.”
In his opening remarks, Academician Chuluun Sampildondov,
Director of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, emphasized
that Mongolia
is home to the most significant Hunnu archaeological sites.
He noted that the results of a century of Hunnu research are now being
exhibited and promoted to the world through the Chinggis Khaan National Museum.
In recent years, the museum has initiated major research projects on Hunnu heritage
and is leading efforts to nominate Hunnu aristocratic burial complexes for
inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Among the sites proposed for inscription are Gol Mod 1 and 2
in Arkhangai aimag, Noyon Uul and
Chikhertiin
Zoo in Tuv aimag, Takhiltyn
Khotgor in Khovd aimag, and Duurlig Nars in
Khentii aimag. The final review meeting for the inscription
is scheduled to take place in 2026.
During the conference, Academician Chuluun
also met with officials of the Hungarian National Museum to
discuss organizing an exhibition on the Huns of the Attila era in Europe,
to be displayed at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum in October 2026.
The international conference brought together researchers from the Hungarian National Museum, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and the Institute for Hungarian Studies, as well as scholars from China, Tatarstan (Russia), Mongolia, and Kazakhstan.

Ulaanbaatar
